5 walks we suggest trying in the Aberdeenshire Area. Be sure to grab a photo when you’re on your walks and enter our photo competition during the first week of October which is National Walk Your Dog Week.
Crathes Castle
Crathes castle, located just outside the village of Banchory, offers many walks through the estate. Mainly forested with a combination of ponds and small rivers, Crathes Castle also boasts a gorgeous cafe and gift shop beside the castle itself. As well as this there are tours of the castle itself available, access to a beautiful walled garden and an incredible outdoor play park for the kids.
Balmedie Beach
A simply gorgeous beach! Just north of Aberdeen, a beach worth the trip. Wether it’s a splash in the ocean or exploring through the dunes, Balmedie Beach is an incredible coastal walk. For an extended walk you can head up the coast all the way to Newburgh where you might see a seal or two (Newburgh Seal Beach), best to keep the dogs on the lead when you get there of course!
Burn O’Vat
Located just outside the village of Dinnet in the Cairngorms, Brun O’Vat is a wonderful forested walk that brings you to an incredible pothole which, in the right conditions, features an amazing waterfall you can walk underneath. The cairngorms provides endless possibilities for amazing dog walks but Burn O’Vat is one that’s definitely worth doing. After the walk you could head to neighbouring Ballater or Braemar for a bite to eat where there are many options for a pitstop. Search for Muir of Dinnet National Reserve.
Loch Kinnord
A simply stunning Loch in the Cairngorms. A simple walk through the forests surrounding the water, you are constantly amazed by the stunning views in front of you. Search for the Muir of Dinnet National Reserve where you can begin your walk to the loch and then from there its a stroll around the waters edge. Local towns of Dinnet, Aboyne or Ballater offer options for a post walk stop or a look around the local shops.
Glen Tanar
Located just outside the town of Aboyne, Glen Tanar is a simply gorgeous estate. With a vast array of routes, varying in difficulty and length, you could visit this spot endlessly and always have new options to try. With small shallow rivers running through the estate, open spaces and stunning forests Glen Tanar offers the perfect place for a peaceful dog walk. Aboyne is only a 5 minute drive away where we would suggest the Boat Inn (just over the bridge as you enter the town from the estate).
